Are there any recommended procedures on how to effectively flush eyes that have been contaminated?
Individuals should be instructed to hold the eyelids open and roll the eyeballs so fluid will flow on all surfaces of the eye and under the eyelid.
Where should my eye wash station be located?
The eyewash station should be within close proximity of the hazard area, it should never be obstructed and the station should also be on the same level as the hazard.
How many emergency wash stations do I need?
The number of eye wash stations needed per hazard depends on the number of employees in the area and the probability of multiple employees being exposed to the hazard at the same time.
When should I replace the eyewash/dressings?
You should regularly check the expiry date of pods and dressings, do not use them if they are out of date as sterility is no longer guaranteed. If the eyewash is used then it should be replaced immediately.
